Guillaume Bourque discovered music through the clarinet at age 12. He enrolled at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in Montréal in 1997. There, he received serious training in contemporary music, and as a chamber and orchestra musician. Simultaneously, Guillaume started the group Manouche together with Luzio Altobelli and Zoé Dumais. After completing his college degree at the Conservatoire, Guillaume entered the Université de Montréal’s classical clarinet program, which led him to a B.A. in Interpretation. While studying classical music, Guillaume learned about jazz and world music in his work with several groups, including: Manouche, with which he has recorded three albums; Hot club de ma rue, a Django Reinhardt tribute band, and; Ironico Orkestra, his duo with accordion player Luzio Altobelli. This duo performed at the Montréal Jazz Festival in 2005 and released a first album, Passeggiate dei Buddies, in November 2007. In June 2005, Guillaume attended the Banff Centre for the Arts’ Jazz and Creative Music Workshop with Dave Douglas, Don Byron, Greg Osby, and Han Bennink among others. He works on a regular basis with a various composers and producers, including Robert Marcel Lepage, Guido Del Fabbro, Jean Derome, and Érik West-Millet (Bïa, Laure Péré), and does recording sessions for TV shows, movies, documentaries, short films, and other projects.
