Brady in Amsterdam, Mannheim

Tim Brady will give two solo performances and a workshop during the Output Festival in Amsterdam (Netherlands). This event will take place from September 27 to 30, 2007. The day before, a portrait concert under percussionnist Dennis Kuhn direction will take place at the Kulturzentrum Alte Feurwache in Mannheim (Germany).

Ambiances Magnétiques is making many year-end top lists. First, Mike Hansen of WhynotJazz on CKLN picks Prairie orange by Les Poules. François Couture of Délire actuel on CFLX picks Playing Guitar: Symphony #1 by Tim Brady. Mike Chamberlain chose 10 compositions by the Trio Derome Guilbeault Tanguay for his selection in Coda magazine, same as Bart Plantenga for radio Patapoe in Amsterdam. Finally, Montréal’s cultural weekly Ici (Montréal) also picked Playing Guitar: Symphony #1 in addition to Joëlle Léandre and Gianni Lenoci’s Sur une balançoire.

Brady’s First Symphony

Playing Guitar: Symphony #1 Tim Brady

For its third discographic release on the Ambiances Magnétiques label (the 15th of his career!), composer and guitar player Tim Brady presents his first symphony for solo electric guitar, sampler, live electronics and chamber ensemble. And this ensemble is none other than the famed Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, conducted by Lorraine Vaillancourt. Due to its 24-bit captation, monkish stusio work and Brady’s musicianship, Playing Guitar: Symphony #1 is nothing less than a major work of the contemporary repertoire. The album is launched ,September 15, 2004, during the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne’s opening concert for the 2004-2005 season, at Montréal’s Claude-Champagne concert hall.

Nominations aplenty for DAME!

It is the time of the year where award nominations are revealed and DAME musicians are harvesting plenty. Pierre Cartier («Dis, Blaise…»), Tim Brady (Unison Rituals), the Frith, Derome, Tanguay, Boisen quartet (All is bright…) and Lori Freedman (À un moment donné) all received nominations to the Opus prizes, handed out yearly by the Conseil québécois de la musique (Québec Musical Council, CQM). Moreover, Freedman (clarinet), Pierre Tanguay (percussions), Tom Walsh (trombone) and Jean Derome (musician of the year) are also nominated for the National Jazz Awards.
