John Geggie is greatly in demand as a versatile musician and creative composer both in Canada and internationally. He toured extensively with the award-winning jazz group Chelsea Bridge and the Juno-nominated DD Jackson Trio. He has also performed or recorded with a veritable who’s who of creative improvised music including Jon Christensen, Andy Milne, Ben Monder, Craig Taborn, David Mott, Sheila Jordan, David Murray, Andrew Cyrille, Donny McCaslin, Matt Brubeck, Ted Nash, Billy Hart, Marilyn Crispell, Myra Melford, Cuong Vu, Peter Lutek, Marilyn Lerner, Peggy Lee, Justin Haynes, Jean Martin and double bassist Mark Dresser. He is also a member of the working groups of both Frank Lozano and David Mott.

He attended Indiana University where he worked with the renowned jazz pedagogue, David Baker; he also studied with three unique and highly influential double bass players, Gary Peacock, Palle Danielsson and Anders Jormin.

For many years, Geggie has hosted the Late Night Jam Sessions at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. Previously, he has performed at various international festivals including in Rouen and Maubeuge (France), in Molde (Norway) and throughout the United States. Geggie performed in the Ottawa Composers’ Collective at the Ottawa Jazz Festival and premiered many of his compositions during the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival. For eight years, he has programmed, curated and performed in his own series of creative music collaborations called the Geggie Series at the Fourth Stage of the National Arts Centre.

He has also written and performed music for film and modern dance choreographers in Gatineau and Ottawa.

John is on faculty at the Crane School of Music, State University of New York (SUNY Potsdam) and has students at both Carleton University as well as University of Ottawa.
