29-year-old Amy Horvey is well known as a contemporary, orchestral and Baroque trumpeter both in Canada and abroad. She regularly works with the National Arts Centre and Montreal Symphony Orchestras, and recently appeared with Ensemble Caprice at the Montreal Baroque Festival. Amy is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Trumpet Performance with Ed Carroll at McGill University with the support of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

She has commissioned works from many composers, including Marc Yeats, Cecilia Arditto, Anna Höstman, and Ryan Purchase. Her latest projects include The Queen of the Music Boxes, a solo performance for trumpet and music boxes inspired by cornet soloist Edna White (1891-1992), which was featured at the 2009 Stratford Summer Music Festival.

In 2006, Amy toured Canada with The Perspective of Disappearance, a program of new music for solo trumpet. This program was featured at such venues as Open Space Victoria and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. At the invitation of jazz trumpeter Dave Douglas, she presented the program at the 2006 Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York. In May 2008, she toured Northern Italy with a contemporary program for solo trumpet. In September 2008 she performed her original score to the dance performance Rooms, a collaboration with Agnija Seiko, at the Plartforma Festival in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

In 2008-2009 Amy Horvey was the holder of the National Arts Centre of Canada’s Richard Li Young Artist Chair.
