A composer and saxophonist/flutist, Pierre Labbé has written stage music for over ten theatre productions (Pacamambo by Wajdi Mouawad — awarded a “masque” for best production for young public in 2002 — Le Jardin des songes by Serge Marois, etc.). He plays on stage and records with the avant-garde music groups “Les Projectionnistes” and “Papa Boa.” He leads the “Ensemble Pierre Labbé” devoted to his own compositions. A first album, Risque et pendule, is out on the label Ambiances Magnétiques. He has performed in numerous jazz and new music festivals across Canada (Victoriaville, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Halifax, Moncton, and Vancouver). Always on the lookout for new fields to explore, he has participated to many events, such as “L’instant de l’instinct” (a music and dance improvisation show), “Musique à l’usine C” (improvisation over silent films), and “Rencontres de musique écrite et musique improvisée” (pairing the Papa Boa collective with the Euterpe string quartet). He is currently working on many projects: a solo show of music tales for children, a music theatre for three actors and three singers (produced by L’Arrière-Scène), along with writing material for a new trio project. Pierre Labbé stands out thanks to his boldness and versatility as a composer, interpreter and improviser. actuellecd.com Pierre Labbé: biography |
