Revue & Corrigée Investigates: Why Do you Make CDs?

The French magazine Revue & Corrigée (#76, June 2008) has published an impelling article Pourquoi faites-vous des disques? (“Why do you make CDs?”). Jérôme Noetinger, remembering the 1987 Libération special issue asking “Why do you make films?” and the answer by Jean-Luc Godard (“I make movies to avoid the why question”), has decided to ask "the why question" to about 40 artists and producers, among whom: Jean-François Denis, Bertrand Denzler, Bernard Fort, Lionel Marchetti, Martin Tétreault, Carole Rieussec, Joëlle Léandre

SuperMusique: Léandre, Derome, Roger in Montréal

The next Production Supermusique event, Léandre, Derome, Roger, will be presented very soon! For this concert, the grande dame of improvised music, French doublebassist Joëlle Léandre, will meet in duo and trio two Montrealers, masters of improvisation: multi-instrumentist Jean Derome and percussionnist Danielle Palardy Roger. The concert will be on Tuesday March 25, 2008 at La Sala Rossa in Montréal.

DAME at the 13th Guelph Jazz Festival

The Guelph Jazz Festival (Ontario) will take place from September 6 to 10, 2006. We will hear pianist Marilyn Lerner on September 6, and Robert Marcel Lepage will present his project Pee Wee et moi on September 7. Famed trumpet player Bill Dixon and double bass master Joëlle Léandre will share the stage on September 8. Alson, Lori Freedman will join the Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble on September 9.

Ambiances Magnétiques is making many year-end top lists. First, Mike Hansen of WhynotJazz on CKLN picks Prairie orange by Les Poules. François Couture of Délire actuel on CFLX picks Playing Guitar: Symphony #1 by Tim Brady. Mike Chamberlain chose 10 compositions by the Trio Derome Guilbeault Tanguay for his selection in Coda magazine, same as Bart Plantenga for radio Patapoe in Amsterdam. Finally, Montréal’s cultural weekly Ici (Montréal) also picked Playing Guitar: Symphony #1 in addition to Joëlle Léandre and Gianni Lenoci’s Sur une balançoire.

DAME’s Musicians at the Guelph Jazz Festival

From ,September 8 to 12, 2004,, the Guelph Jazz Festival (ON) will present many workshops and concerts. Several DAME artists will be featured in this year’s edition. On ,September 9, Joane Hétu will be one of the guest speakers at the “Improvising Women Singing” workshop, alongside Christine Duncan, Sainkho Namtchylak and Kate Hammett-Vaughan. That same day, Kate Hammett-Vaughan will perform with Ron Samworth and Bernard Falaise will play with the duo Barnyard Drama. The night ends with a Noma concert. On ,September 10,, the “Instruments, Voices, Narratives” workshop will feature Jean Derome, Joëlle Léandre, Anne Bourne and others. In the afternoon, Derome and Hétu will give a Nous perçons les oreilles concert. Lastly, on ,September 11,, Joëlle Léandre and Les Projectionnistes will also give concerts.
