Martin Levasseur: biography

Martin Levasseur (Pohénégamook, Québec, 1970)

• composer • performer (guitar)

Martin Levasseur first tried himself at classical piano, electric guitar and rock song before being led — according to his academic formation — to explore composition, electroacoustics, and worldbeat music (espacially at the Université de Montréal under the teaching of Michel Longtin, José Evangelista, and Robert Normandeau). Harmonic decontextualization and stylistic decompartmentalization set the core of his considerations as a composer: to make not a musical genre, but music; to favor listening rather than any system — without ever negating the latter.

Étienne Guérin [English translation: Patrick Poulin, iv-04]
