Viola da gambist Pierre-Yves Martel is active in improvised, contemporary and early music. He has recorded three albums on the Ambiances Magnétiques record label, Engagement et confrontation, improvisations for solo prepared double bass, Quartetski does Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives and Disparition de l'usine éphémère He is a member of Constantinople and performs with groups including Les Voix Humaines Viol Consort, Le Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Les Voix Baroques, La Nef and Ensemble Masques. As an improvisor, he often performs with Jean Derome, Lori Freedman, Martin Tétreault, Isaiah Ceccarelli, Philippe Lauzier, Ensemble SuperMusique, amongst many others. He has recorded much film music with composers Robert M. Lepage and René Lussier and can often be heard on Radio-Canada and the CBC. Pierre-Yves lives in Montréal since 2004.
