Founded in 1991 by Sylvain Bergeron, Claire Gignac and Viviane LeBlanc, La Nef focuses on turning early period music into a fresh experience. It has become one of the most unusual and dynamically evolving group of musicians and singers in Montréal. The company creates and produces recitals, concerts, music theater shows and recordings in various musical styles. In 2003, La Nef launched a New Music Sector, headed by Claire Gignac, involved in original music and experimental, multidirectional works. For the first concert, La Nef commissioned from Robert Marcel Lepage a work for 10 musicians placing early and modern instruments into new settings. This is the second concert of “La Machine,” recorded in Montréal on March 8th, 2003.
