Summer Concerts by Derome![]()
This summer, many Canadians will be able to appreciate Jean Derome’s multiple talents. On July 1, 2005 the Trio Derome Guilbeault Tanguay will play at the Vancouver Jazz Festival. This trip to the West Coast will be completed by an improvisation with 7 Vancouver musicians, followed by a trio with Paul Plimley and Pierre Tanguay, both on July 2. Afterwards, Derome will play with Fanfare Pourpour in Sherbrooke on July 6. This is followed by a concert on July 8, 2005 at the Festival international de jazz de Montréal in trio with François Bourassa and Pierre Tanguay. Saturday July 9, Derome and Tanguay will present their Plinc! Plonc! project at Québec’s Galerie Rouje, followed by a performance at the OFF festival d’été, this time with Frank Martel and Luc Bonin. A few days later, Fanfare Pourpour stops in Québec City for the Festival d’été, on July 15 and 16. Finally, the Trio Derome Guilbeault Tanguay travels to the East Coast and will be in concert on July 20 at the Halifax Jazz Festival and July 23 at the Newfoundland Jazz Festival in St John’s. Nominations aplenty for DAME!It is the time of the year where award nominations are revealed and DAME musicians are harvesting plenty. Pierre Cartier («Dis, Blaise…»), Tim Brady (Unison Rituals), the Frith, Derome, Tanguay, Boisen quartet (All is bright…) and Lori Freedman (À un moment donné) all received nominations to the Opus prizes, handed out yearly by the Conseil québécois de la musique (Québec Musical Council, CQM). Moreover, Freedman (clarinet), Pierre Tanguay (percussions), Tom Walsh (trombone) and Jean Derome (musician of the year) are also nominated for the National Jazz Awards. Langevin, Tanguay aims the bullseye!
Pierre Langevin and Pierre Tanguay worked together within Strada (an ensemble dedicated to popular middle-ages repertoire). On this album we find them taking a very ludic and disarming turn towards modernity. An armada of objects and small instruments, as well as guest appearances by Jean Derome and Jean René, makes La boulezaille an album that goes straight to the bullseye!
