… l’auditeur découvre des textures sonores éternellement renouvelées par le souci des nuances, la finesse des approches.
This is a unique and sophisticated work.
This new production, Les Poules’ third album, showcases once again the vitality of this trio of improvising women: Joane Hétu, Diane Labrosse, and Danielle Palardy Roger. Recorded after a stretch of concerts in France and Belgium, Phénix unveils a conceptual and minimalistic approach to free improvisation; a music of sounds and noises growing ever more clever, subtle, and sophisticated. This recording is full of raw and concise sonic constructions. The album has been put together from 24 miniatures of one, two or five minutes, grouped into six elegant and homogeneous movements. There are mouth sounds, muffled rustling, and bells aplenty. These three musicians have been improvising together for a long time, and they deliver here a record that breathes density, an intense yet calm and serene universe, inspired by the eternal rebirth of the mythical Phoenix.
