Some related items: The duo of Jean-François Pauvros and Hélène Breschand is an intriguing combination to say the least, this mixture of electrified guitar and celestial harp has few precedents in whatever genre of experimental or creative music you’d care to think of. On the one hand, the switched-on plectrist is a pioneer of the avant-rock and noise scenes at home, and has been working for some thirty years now. Over that span of time, he has crossed paths with such fret board fanatics as Arto Lindsay, Lee Ranaldo and Keiji Haino, but has also played to the beat of Lamonte Young and Rhys Chatham. Hélène Breschand hails from a background that could be no more different than the guitarist’s, but in spite of the great stylistic divide she too has no faint heart when it comes to her musical encounters. Though in a class of her own in France, she is not alone in the field, and one has to mention kindred spirits like Welshman Rhodri Davies and two American counterparts, Zeena Parkins and Ann LeBaron. Musically, too, her spectrum ranges from free improvisation to contemporary music and mixes thereof, such as in the Ensemble Laborintus and her trio with clarinettist Sylvain Kassap and cellist Didier Petit.
