Cal Crawford is a performative scientist, an investigator of phenomenological
minutiae, a squint artist. Akin to Erik Satie’s advice to the performer of his Vexations
to prepare oneself with some “serious immobilities,” Crawford here examines the
impossibilities of holding still. For “sitting on theories on the frontier on
extension,” his first full length solo CD, he generated sounds by sitting on top of a
bundle of blankets with a microphone rolled up into its center. This one hour process was his
starting point. He did further recordings by putting bodily pressure of various types of
microphones: in water, clothing, skin, etc. Pressure was also created by heat, as in boiling
water. The title “sitting on theories on the frontier on extension” refers to
Crawford’s attempts to create a spatially extended recording from acts that lacked a
movement through space and instead focused on increasing the distance of/inside specific
points: pressure points. As with all squint fucker press publications the CD cover exhibits an
individual trace, a gesture, an intervention. In this case, each CD cover is hammered on a
concrete block, the hit is aimed at the center where the title is printed. The hit might miss,
partially obscure, or obliterate the title. The pressure points to itself. It boils over,
whistles. Cal Crawford, presently residing in Montréal, spent his formative years in the
backwoods of New Brunswick. Using field, body, and situational recordings, he stages a strange
and uncertain universe of sonic matter in a wholly dramatic and rigorous manner.

“Throughout shapeless masses, shady harmonies and failed attempts at
incoherence, using any unavailable means possible, every unecessary hairy instruments
(electronixxx and/or acoustixxx), Alexandre St-Onge and Roger Tellier-Craig explore and
explicitely exploit the ever changing entity that will become Et Sans. They are almost as
pretentious as you… ” The object itself is a context of destruction and

Made by Christof Migone (Montréal) and Veda Hille (Vancouver), at secret
yearly meetings in their homes between 2000 and 2004. Small sounds, tiny war machines,
mistakes, spit, lucky licks and yes, songs. The very songs we wish to escape from. Songs
escaping from themselves, escaping to an escape. Veda and Christof wrote little songs, recorded
them, and then fussed around until they became other. An organization of those little voices
that distract, that you listen for, that you attempt to cultivate or bat away. Songs escaped.
squintfuckerpress is putting it out. Like it or have a sympathectomy. Digipak with a line of
dots in clear varnish on the cover.

Jonathan Parant has documented the spectral voices which emerge from things when
we listen to them with fascination. His pieces indicate that there’s always a type of
murmur which obligates us to remain attentive to what could happen, of what has happened, or
what will never happen. Because the moment of listening inscribes us in the interstices of
time. Therefore, let us not try to comprehend these little sound objects, but listen to them,
“lean in their direction,” travel to nowhere with them. CD is in a clear jewel case
and contains various shades of pink. every cover shows traces of being almost burnt. Jonathan
is member of Fly Pan Am and Les Sirènes de Sorrente.
